Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has said there is no scope for the banned Awami League to conduct organisational activities, as the party has been banned over its past activities.
He made the remarks at an introductory meeting of the newly formed committees of the Dattapara Union and ward units of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal in Chandraganj upazila of Lakshmipur on Friday (October 2).
Referring to the Awami League, Anee said those who fled the country on August 5, 2024, belonged to a party that had been banned over what he described as 17 years of misdeeds.
“There is no scope for their organisational activities. They are trying to carry out isolated acts of wrongdoing. We have to remain alert and vigilant,” he said.
Addressing the opposition, He questioned the repeated programmes of rallies, meetings, long marches and road marches, saying the BNP-led government had been in office for only six months and could not complete all its work within that period.
He also criticised election-time claims by opposition parties that they represented the “party of Allah” and could ensure people’s entry into paradise, saying such matters were related to faith and belief and were ultimately determined by Allah.
