A 45-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a moving train at Bhairab Railway Station in Kishoreganj on Saturday night.

The deceased, Mariam Begum, wife of Mahbub Mia, was a resident of Kishoreganj Sadar and originally from Bajitpur.

The accident occurred near platform No. 2. Mariam was waiting for the Egarosindhur train to Kishoreganj when the Titas Commuter train, travelling from Dhaka towards Brahmanbaria, entered the station and hit her.

She fell onto the tracks and suffered severe injuries, including a severed leg. She was rescued and taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex, where she died from excessive blood loss, said duty doctor Dr Mominur Rahman.

Bhairab Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Hasan said police recovered the body from the hospital and informed her family.

Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
