Food official hacked in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 10: A food control officer was hacked and injured by a group of unidentified miscreants in the city’s Farazipara area on Sunday evening.

The injured was identified as Anindya Kumar Das, Food Control Officer of Batiaghata Upazila.

Police and local people said, Anindya was returning after shopping at Akbar Store when five to six miscreants intercepted him near the store and started beating him indiscriminately.

At one stage, they attacked him with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.

Hearing his screams, local people rushed to the spot, prompting the attackers to flee.

The locals rescued Anindya and took him to Khulna City Medical College Hospital, where he received primary treatment.

He was later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

The motive behind the attack could not be known immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station Md Shafiqul Islam said police had sent a team to the spot after receiving information about the incident.

“Further details will be available after the team returns. Legal action will be taken after identifying the attackers if a complaint is filed,” he said.
