CHATMOHAR, PABNA, Aug 10: A mobile court seized two sacks of banned current nets worth around Tk 40,000 from Amritkunda (Rail Bazar) in Chatmohar Upazila on Sunday.
The raid was conducted by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Faisal Mahmud under the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act. The market is considered the largest in the upazila.
The sellers fled the scene when the mobile court team arrived, said Md Abdul Matin, senior fisheries officer of Chatmohar.
He said the team recovered two sacks of current nets during the drive. The nets had an estimated market value of Tk 40,000.
Current nets are banned as their use can harm fish stocks by catching juvenile fish and other aquatic species.
Later, the seized nets were burned and destroyed publicly, the fisheries officer said.
