A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Mohammad Arif alias Imran, an alleged member of the banned militant group New-JMB, on a six-day remand in an Anti-Terrorism Act case filed with Savar Police Station.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Tajul Islam Sohag passed the order after police sought a 10-day remand. No lawyer represented Imran in court.
Police arrested him on August 11 during a raid in Savar’s BSCIC industrial area. Six to seven others allegedly accompanying him fled.
Based on information provided by Imran, police later recovered materials allegedly used for destructive activities, components for making explosives and organisational documents from a rented house in Shyampur.
Police said the suspects had gathered to carry out anti-state and terrorist activities and create instability. Several named and unidentified suspects remain absconding.
