Youth League leader among two detained over August 15 khichuri cooking

Police detained two leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations in Kushtia’s Bheramara for allegedly organising party activists and cooking khichuri to mark August 15.

The detainees are Sohel Rana Paban, chairman of Bahadurpur Union Parishad and vice-president of the banned Bheramara upazila unit of Jubo League, and his brother Rubel Mahmud Ratan, president of the union unit of Swechhasebak League.

They were detained from the Bahadurpur Union Parishad area near Kuchiamora Bazar around 11:30pm on Friday.

Police said the two had been secretly carrying out party activities and attempting to organise activists ahead of August 15, the 51st death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zahedur Rahman said they were detained to maintain law and order. Further legal action would be taken in the case, he added.
