CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers blocked a road in Chattogram’s Kadamtali area on Saturday afternoon, protesting the unavailability of gas.

The drivers began the protest by placing tree logs on the road in front of Four Star Syndicate Filling Station around 2pm. Police removed them from the road around 4pm, restoring traffic movement.

The drivers alleged that they had been waiting for hours at filling stations but were not being supplied gas, while government and other privileged vehicles were allegedly being given priority.

They said prolonged waits for gas were affecting their income as they could not operate their vehicles.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor said the drivers had blocked the road demanding gas. Police went to the spot and persuaded them to leave, after which traffic returned to normal.

A similar road blockade was staged by hundreds of CNG auto-rickshaw drivers in the Sholoshahar area on Friday over the gas shortage.
