Police have arrested Md Masudur Rahman Masud, a member of the banned Awami Jubo League and former chairman of Mahadebpur Upazila Parishad in Naogaon, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
He was arrested from the Kunjaban Puratan Bazar area under Khajur Union of Mahadebpur around noon on Saturday.
Masud, son of Md Jasim Uddin Pramanik of Kunjaban village, was returning home after buying medicine from the Old Bridge area when police arrested him, according to police.
Confirming the arrest, Mahadebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Faruk said Masud is accused in several cases filed with the police station, including allegations of conducting propaganda and publicity in favour of the banned Awami League. He was arrested in an Anti-Terrorism Act case and will be produced before a court for sending to jail custody.
Masud was elected chairman of Mahadebpur Upazila Parishad as an independent candidate in the 2024 upazila parishad election, held during the previous Awami League government.
