Info complexes to be built in all dists,UZs: Swapon

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Sunday said the government has taken an initiative to construct information complexes in all districts and upazilas across the country.

He came up with the information while addressing as the chief guest a ceremony marking the inauguration of the Divisional Information Complex on C&B Road in Barishal city.

The minister said these complexes will serve as central hubs for all internet-based and IT-driven information services.

“It will be a mistake to view this merely as massive buildings.”

The objective of constructing these facilities is to create a “knowledge product” by blending information services with professional expertise and knowledge, he added.

The newly inaugurated complex was constructed at a cost of around Tk 17 crore. Although the project was initially scheduled for completion in 2023, the facility was inaugurated after a three-year delay.

Barishal City Corporation Administrator Bilkis Jahan Shirin attended the programme as a special guest with Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana in the chair.-UNB
