NOAKHALI, Aug 17: Noakhali-4 MP Mohammad Shahjahan has called for political leaders, public representatives, teachers, parents and young people to work together with law enforcement agencies to build a drug-free society.
He made the call as the chief guest at an anti-drug rally and discussion organised by members of civil society from Sudharam Thana and Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Noakhali Municipality on Sunday afternoon.
Shahjahan said drugs not only destroy individuals but also put families, society and future generations at risk.
“Therefore, we have to build social resistance against drugs,” he said.
The BNP’s position against drugs will be clear and strict, he said, adding that legal action must be taken against drug trading and its spread regardless of the identity of those involved.
“Effective resistance must be built against those who are pushing young people towards the wrong path,” Shahjahan said.
He said the country’s young people were its future strength and called on families to be more vigilant to protect them from the dangers of drugs.
He urged parents to develop friendly relationships with their children and remain attentive to their movements and mental wellbeing.
Shahjahan also called for legal action against people involved in drug-related activities.
He urged law enforcement agencies not to provide any concessions or consider recommendations, regardless of the political affiliation of drug users or traders.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police NM Nasir Uddin, Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam, and leaders and activists of BNP’s affiliated organisations attended the programme.
