A 16-year-old 10th-grade student drowned and died in the Punarbhaba River in Dinajpur city.
The deceased was identified as Limon,16, the son of Liton Islam of Sipahi Para in Dinajpur city and a 10th-grade student at Tafiuddin Memorial High School.
Limon went missing while bathing in the river at Mahutpara on Wednesday afternoon. His body was recovered from the river near Ulipur in Dinajpur Sadar upazila at around 1:00 PM Thursday.
Police have detained four of his classmates for questioning in connection with the incident. Sub Inspector (SI) Shahadat Hossain of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station confirmed the incident.
The four classmates detained for questioning are Ruhul Amin Khan (16), Atikur Rahman (16), Abir Hossain (16), and Taznim Rahman (17).
According to locals, several students entered the Punarbhaba River at Mahutpara to bathe on Wednesday afternoon. At one point, Limon went missing in the water. Fire Service personnel and locals began searching for him, and a team of divers from Rangpur later joined the operation.
At around 1:00 PM Thursday, Limon’s body surfaced in the river near Ulipur village. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dinajpur Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
SI Shahadat Hossain said, ‘’the four classmates were detained for questioning and that legal proceedings are underway.”
