Three hill district councils in Chattogram Reconstituted

The three Hill District Councils of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban have been reconstituted.

The Council-1 Branch of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs comfirms issued by a notification.

The interim councils were formed under the authority granted by the Hill District Council Act, 1989; Section 16A(4) of the three Hill District Councils (Amendment) Act, 1997; and Sections 4(2) and 2(2) of the three Hill District Councils (Amendment) Act, 2014.

In the reconstituted interim councils, Mr. Dipan Talukdar has been appointed Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, Mr. Mrasa Thowai Marma as Chairman of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council, and Ms. Mamyaching as Chairperson of the Bandarban Hill District Council. In addition to the chairperson, 14 members have been appointed to each district council.

The interim councils will perform the responsibilities of their respective district councils in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations until further orders.

The notification also stated that the previous councils, formed through notification No. 29.00.0000.214.18.0022.24-119 dated November 7, 2024, have been dissolved.

The order takes effect immediately.
