Three people were killed and another injured in separate road accidents in Ghoraghat Upazila of Dinajpur District and Sirajganj District on Friday.
GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR: A woman and her 9-year-old daughter were killed on Friday morning when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind and ran them over on a regional highway near Ghoraghat filling station in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district.
The victims were identified as Sampa Begum, 35, wife of Salim Sarkar of Fulhar Nasirabad area in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha and her daughter, Nusaifa Akhter. Salim, who was riding the motorcycle, escaped unhurt.
Eyewitnesses said Salim was taking his wife and daughter to a relative's house in Chittipara Village in Gobindaganj when a Dinajpur-bound truck struck the motorcycle near Islampur Bazar of Ghoraghat Municipality. Sampa and Nusaifa fell onto the road and were run over by the truck. They died at the scene. The truck fled after the crash.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghoraghat Police Station (PS) Shahidul Islam said police are working to identify the truck and arrest its driver.
SIRAJGANJ: A dump truck driver was killed and his helper injured when their sand-laden 10-wheel truck crashed into another vehicle in the Nur Pump area of Raiganj Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, son of Rajab Ali of Baropota Village in Benapole Police Station of Jashore. The injured helper, Raihan, is from Mymensingh.
Hatikumrul Highway PS OC Ismail Hossain said Raihan was driving the dump truck while Shariful was sleeping when the vehicle lost control near S&B Brick Kiln and rammed a vehicle ahead.
Both men were seriously injured and taken to a hospital after police reached the scene. Doctors declared Shariful dead while he was undergoing treatment.
Raihan remains under treatment. Police are investigating the cause of the accident and said legal action would be taken.
