‘The University of Chankharpul’ to stream on Chorki

The award-winning film, which explores the darker side of university politics, will be available on the streaming platform from August 27.

Young filmmaker Akash Hossain’s The University of Chankharpul*, which explores the darker and more realistic aspects of university politics, is set to stream on Chorki from the early hours of August 27.

Chorki announced the release in a press statement on Sunday.

The film was screened earlier this year at the Dhaka International Film Festival, where it won the Best Film award in the Bangladesh Panorama section.

The film explores how power shifts in student politics, the methods used to gain control, and how money changes hands. It also portrays how students can rise to positions of power before eventually losing everything.

Speaking about the film, director Akash Hossain said audiences had responded positively to its humour and portrayal of university life.

“Many people from different universities have told me, ‘This character is just like someone from our university,’” he said.

The director said the film was not only about student politics but also reflected the broader power structure of Bangladesh.

According to him, the competition for positions, senior-junior relationships and factionalism are not limited to university campuses but mirror wider society and the state.

Devdyuti Aich, Rocky Khan, Bobby Biswas, Akhtaruzzaman Azad, Abu Sayeed, Ifad Hasan, Chayan Mondal and SA Jibon, among others, have acted in the film.
