Fishing trawler sinks in Bay, 5 still missing

A fishing trawler carrying 13 fishermen sank after being caught in rough waves in the deep sea in the Bay of Bengal, left five missing.
 
The incident occurred around noon on Monday, about 50 kilometres south of Kuakata.

Three of the five missing fishermen have been identified as Md Belal, Md Nur Alam and Md Ibrahim. All of them are residents of Patharghata upazila in Barguna.

At around 10:30 PM, another trawler rescued eight of the fishermen after finding them floating in the sea. Five fishermen are still missing.

Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Trawler Owners’ Association, said, "the FB Barkat had left for the Bay of Bengal on Friday with 13 fishermen to catch fish. Around noon on Monday, the trawler sank after being caught in rough waves about 50 kilometres off the Kuakata coast. After remaining afloat for a long time, eight fishermen were rescued by another trawler. 

 FB Zahura Khatun trawler has been sent to the sea to search for the five missing fishermen.

Patharghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tapas Pal said, ''he had learned about the five fishermen from Patharghata going missing after a trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal. He said necessary measures were being taken in this regard."
