Chanchal Chowdhury’s ‘Padatik’ to premiere on OTT

Srijit Mukherji’s biopic on legendary Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen, Padatik, starring Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury as Sen, is set to premiere on an OTT platform this week.

The film, which was released in West Bengal theatres in August 2024, will be available on Indian streaming platform ZEE5 from Friday, August 28.

Chanchal’s portrayal of Mrinal Sen drew widespread attention and marked a significant role in his career. The film was also a deeply personal experience for the actor, as he lost his father shortly before filming began and had to perform while dealing with the grief.

The cast also includes West Bengal actors Monami Ghosh as Sen’s wife, Geeta Sen, Korak Samanta as the young Mrinal Sen, and Samrat Chakraborty as his son, Kunal Sen.

The filmmakers had planned to release Padatik in Bangladesh as well as West Bengal. However, the release could not take place amid the RG Kar protests in Kolkata and political changes in Bangladesh at the time.
