Two arrested for trying to steal earrings from dead woman

Two men have been arrested in Nepal for allegedly trying to steal earrings from the body of a woman who died in a devastating flash flood.

The incident came to light after a video of the act went viral on social media on Thursday.

The video shows the woman’s body lying buried under mud, wood and debris. Two men approach the body using bamboo poles. One of them pulls the body up and tries to remove her earrings.

Nepal Police identified the suspects as Madan Gurung and Umesh Chaudhary from the video and arrested them from Pokhara Bus Park in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1, according to Nepali media Khabarhub.

Police said the woman’s body had drifted downstream to a lower area of the Narayani River following the devastating flood.

Police warned that looting and any disrespect towards the dead would not be tolerated during the rescue operation.
