In a joint drive, around 5,000 metres of banned current net has been recovered from the Padma River in Goalanda under Rajbari district while a fisherman along with his current net has been arrested and fined Tk 1,000 in a mobile court.
The drive was carried out on Friday (September 4) in different parts of the Padma River and adjoining areas with the leadership of UNO of Goalanda Saiful Huda and Daulatdia River Police.
Babu Pramanik, 54, a fisherman, was arrested near Daulatdia Ferry Ghat No. 7 with his current net and has been fined Tk 1,000 with order to give 3-day imprisonment for not paying the fine.
The confiscated nets, valued Tk 150,000, have been burnt down in front of Daulatdia River Police Outpost.
UNO informed that such operations will be carried out against banned China-duari and current nets in regular intervals to protect breeding of fish in the Padma River.
