Tourists return to Rangamati hanging bridge

Tourists returned to Rangamati’s iconic hanging bridge on Saturday after a seven-day closure caused by rising water levels in Kaptai Lake.

The authorities lifted the entry ban from Saturday morning, drawing a large number of visitors to the bridge.

The bridge was submerged on August 29 after heavy rain and water flowing down from the hills rapidly raised the lake’s water level. The authorities closed it to visitors from that afternoon as a safety measure.

As the water level receded, most of the bridge emerged on Friday afternoon. The authorities subsequently cleaned and carried out necessary repairs to the bridge.

Alok Bikash Chakma, manager of the Tourism Holiday Complex, said the water had receded from the bridge deck as the lake level fell, allowing visitors to enter from Saturday.
