Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj District and Rajarhat Upazila of Kurigram District on Wednesday.
GOPALGANJ: A pickup van helper named Prabir, 40, was killed when the pickup crashed into the back of a truck parked near the Bijoypasha bus stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Wednesday morning.
Gopalganj Fire Service Senior Station Officer Malek Ali Sardar confirmed the incident, saying that a vacant pickup van travelling from Dhaka to Gopalganj crashed into the rear of a truck parked on the roadside in the Bijoypasha area, leaving Prabir killed on the spot.
After receiving the news, fire service personnel recovered Prabir's body from inside the pickup van, and handed it over to the police.
RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A 6-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a motorcycle on the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat highway near Grameen Bank in Chhinai Bazar area of Rajarhat Upazila in the district on Wednesday morning.
Surjo Pal, the son of Swapan and Joya Pal of Chhinai Palpara and a student at Singhimari Primary School, was hit at about 8:15 am near Grameen Bank in Chhinai Bazar while travelling along the highway, police and residents said.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken by family members and residents to Kurigram General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
Officer-in-Charge of Rajarhat Police Station Mamunur Rashid said a case was filed over the death and an investigation is underway.
