Classes to be monitored live through app

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) is introducing a centralised system to monitor classes at schools, colleges, madrasas and technical institutions through live video.

Under the initiative, DSHE assistant directors will monitor classroom teaching directly through the DMS app, according to DSHE sources.

The move aims to strengthen oversight of classroom teaching and address complaints of teachers skipping classes and failing to ensure quality lessons.

Heads of schools, madrasas and technical institutions have also been required to update their WhatsApp numbers in the Primary Data Sheet (PDS) to strengthen digital monitoring at the field level.

The DSHE is also working to launch a master trainer pool and a teachers' exchange programme involving skilled teachers. It is coordinating with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) to prepare common lesson plans.

AI- and technology-based teacher training is also scheduled to begin this month. Under an ICT project, 305,288 teachers and officials have already received training.

Specialised training will be provided to address shortages of mathematics, English and science teachers. New categories of awards and medals will also be introduced during National Education Week to recognise teachers' outstanding work.

A draft action plan for launching a National Education Channel using the technology of Sangsad Television has been finalised. Field-level instructions have also been issued to ensure co-curricular activities in educational institutions.

DSHE Director General Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel said work on AI training for teachers, app-based live monitoring and preparations for the National Education Channel was progressing rapidly.

DSHE Deputy Director (HRM) Md Shawkat Hossain Mollah, the focal point for monitoring implementation of the directives, said close monitoring was being carried out to ensure their full implementation.

He said some measures could be implemented quickly as they were short-term, while technical initiatives such as the National Education Channel would be implemented through a detailed plan.
