Chattogram Customs House has collected nearly Tk 67.90 lakh in additional revenue after detecting misdeclared imported goods through a physical inspection.

The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of Chattogram Customs House seized the consignment and conducted the inspection based on intelligence information, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said in a press release on Monday.

Importer Kahf Corporation submitted a bill of entry on July 29 declaring 37 metric tonnes of heat transfer paper and 10 metric tonnes of PVC flex banner at the Chattogram Customs House ICD.

Based on the declaration, customs initially assessed duties and taxes at Tk 57.38 lakh.

However, a physical inspection found only 19.85 metric tonnes of heat transfer paper against the declared 37 metric tonnes, while the consignment contained 26.79 metric tonnes of PVC flex banner instead of the declared 10 metric tonnes.

Following detection of the false declaration, the total duties, taxes and penalties were assessed at Tk 1.25 crore, resulting in around Tk 67.90 lakh in additional revenue compared with the initial assessment.
