PM directs unified training curriculum across ministries

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities to bring training programmes run by different ministries under an integrated framework with a unified curriculum and certification system.
He gave the directive while chairing the third meeting of the governing body of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday.
The prime minister said the NSDA has an important role to play in developing skilled human resources based on the demands of the national and international labour markets.
He said the authority is also an important platform for increasing demand for Bangladesh’s skilled workforce in the international labour market.
Tarique stressed the need to develop the skills of young people, saying various ministries run numerous training programmes but a lack of coordination means many of the programmes and certificates are not proving effective.
As a result, young Bangladeshis are not receiving the expected recognition for these certificates at national and international levels, he said.
The prime minister directed the NSDA governing body to form a small committee and formulate the necessary policies within a short time to bring skills development and training programmes of different ministries under an integrated framework.
He also stressed introducing a unified curriculum for training and certification.
A unified and internationally recognised training and certification system would improve young people’s skills and increase their acceptance and recognition in national and international labour markets, he said.
The meeting discussed the NSDA’s administrative structure, manpower and functions, as well as policies and strategies for skills development, sector-based skills demand analysis and short-, medium- and long-term action plans based on labour market needs.
Improving training quality, certification and mutual recognition of certificates were also discussed.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Public Administration Adviser Md Ismail Zabiullah, Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister and Labour and Employment Minister Arif-ul-Haque Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s Adviser and PMO spokesperson Mahdi Amin, State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, SDG Chief Coordinator Professor Dr SM Abdul Awal, the NSDA executive chairman and senior officials from various ministries attended the meeting.
