Chattogram District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah has stressed disease prevention and food safety to reduce pressure on hospitals.
He made the remarks on Saturday (September 19) after a special cleanliness drive and awareness rally at restaurants in Chattogram.
He said food safety and hygiene must be ensured at every stage, from production and preparation to storage and serving, to build a healthy population.
Restaurants have been given until September 24 to improve their kitchens, food preparation, storage and cleanliness. Their grades will be reassessed if they fail to meet the required standards.
The DC also said fines and punishment alone cannot stop food-related irregularities. Restaurant owners and workers need greater awareness and responsibility.
An awareness rally was held from the Circuit House, followed by a cleanliness drive at restaurants in the Stadium Market area. Chattogram-9 MP Mohammad Abu Sufian and restaurant owners’ association representatives attended the event.
