Heavy rain forecast in five divisions over next 48 hours

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds is forecast in several districts across five divisions over the next 48 hours, with temporary waterlogging possible in low-lying areas, according to the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team Limited (BWOT).

The private weather research organisation issued the forecast on Wednesday, saying the impact of the rain could be relatively higher in Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.

In Barishal division, different areas of Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Barishal, Jhalokathi and Pirojpur may experience moderate to heavy rain in spells. Some districts may see temporary downpours, which could cause waterlogging in some areas.

Similarly, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira, Jashore, Narail, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Kushtia, Jhenaidah and Magura in Khulna division may experience moderate to heavy rain in spells. Temporary heavy rain and waterlogging are also possible in some areas.

In Rajshahi division, different areas of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Pabna, Sirajganj, Naogaon, Bogura and Joypurhat may receive moderate to heavy rain. Temporary heavy showers could lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas.

Many areas of Gaibandha, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Rangpur in Rangpur division may also experience moderate to heavy rain intermittently. Temporary waterlogging is possible in isolated areas.

Meanwhile, Tangail, Manikganj, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Madaripur and Gopalganj in Dhaka division may receive moderate to heavy rain in spells. Some areas could experience brief periods of heavy rainfall.

The remaining districts may also receive light to moderate rain in one or two spells over the next 48 hours, with temporary heavy thunderstorms possible in one or two places.

The rainfall is expected to be scattered, meaning all areas of the forecast districts may not receive rain equally.
