Eight people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,782 new patients were hospitalised, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest figures, released in the DGHS’s regular dengue bulletin on Thursday (September 24), took the country’s dengue death toll this year to 209.

Of the total deaths, 112 were recorded in the first 23 days of September, while 43 deaths occurred in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May and two each in January and February.

The number of dengue patients hospitalised this year has reached 69,149. Meanwhile, 1,757 patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 63,874.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new hospitalisations with 716, followed by Chattogram with 288, Khulna 286, Barishal 164, Rajshahi 130, Mymensingh 108, Rangpur 73 and Sylhet 17.
