SRB arrests lifer in murder case

Members of the elite force SRB have arrested a fugitive lifer and close associate of notorious Khulna terrorist Ershad Sikdar after 27 years in hiding.

The arrestee was identified as Jainal Sardar, 55, son of late Ahammad Ali Sardar of Bankura village under Gournadi Police Station in Barishal district.

A joint operational team of SRB-6 and SRB-8 headquarters conducted a drive in Sonadanga Model Police Station area of Khulna city at 10:50 PM on Saturday and arrested him based on secret information and technology tracking.

According to SRB sources, the court sentenced Jainal to life imprisonment and fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one more year of rigorous imprisonment in a murder case filed with Rupsha Police Station in Khulna district in 1999.

The court also awarded him five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 5,000, in default, six more months of simple imprisonment for hiding the body after the murder.

Since the announcement of the verdict, Jainal remained absconding in disguise for 27 years to evade arrest.

The arrestee was handed over to Sonadanga Model Police Station in Khulna for further legal action.
