AL leader arrested at checkpost while fleeing to India

Nasimul Islam, general secretary of the Godagari Municipality unit of the Awami League in Rajshahi, was arrested at the Darshana checkpost in Chuadanga while attempting to travel to India on Sunday.

According to immigration police, the arrest took place around 2:00 PM on September 27 when Nasimul was going through the Darshana immigration checkpost to enter India.

SI Tarek of Darshana Immigration Police said a case had been filed against Nasimul Islam. Following his arrest, he was handed over to Darshana Police Station.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Darshana Police Station, said the arrested man would subsequently be handed over to Godagari Police Station in Rajshahi.

Police did not immediately provide further details about the case against him.
