Jamaat meets International IDEA delegation

A delegation from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) held a meeting with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday (September 28).

The meeting took place at Jamaat’s central office in Moghbazar around 3:30 PM. The IDEA delegation included Principal Adviser Peter Wolf and Country Representative Dr Abdul Alim.

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar led the party delegation, which included Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer and other senior leaders.

During the meeting, Jamaat shared its observations and assessment of alleged irregularities and mismanagement in the February 12 election. The party also discussed complications with postal ballots and verification, as well as expatriates’ inability to register due to server problems.

Jamaat also raised concerns over the use of black money, violent activities and what it described as one-sided roles by some media outlets. The two sides agreed on several issues aimed at ensuring impartial elections in the future.
