Schoolboy dies of dengue in Dhamrai

A 17-year-old schoolboy died of dengue while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Savar on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rifat, an eighth-grade student of Kushura Abbas Ali High School and son of Md Abdul of Kantahati village in Kushura Union, Dhamrai.

According to his family and locals, Rifat had been suffering from fever for around 10 to 15 days. His condition deteriorated on September 23, following which his family initially sought treatment from a local traditional healer.

Locals claimed that his condition worsened after he underwent traditional rituals. He was later admitted to a private hospital in Savar, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Family members said Rifat had suffered from fever previously and had been given antibiotics without undergoing medical tests. A doctor later told the family that his condition had become critical.

His death has cast a shadow of grief over his family, classmates, teachers and local residents.
