Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced on Thursday (October 1) that transactions made via 'Bangla QR' codes will incur no fees or extra charges, as part of government efforts to expand a cashless economy across Bangladesh.
The minister made the statement during an inspection and formal inauguration of Bangla QR code-based product purchases at Banani Kitchen Market in the capital.
Addressing the media, the Finance Minister affirmed that under this initiative, all QR code transactions will be completely free of charge for both buyers and sellers.
He highlighted that small traders, rickshaw pullers, street vendors, and small businesses will be brought under this digital financial service. The system allows sellers to receive payments into any bank or financial service provider account using a single QR code, reducing the reliance on physical cash.
Acknowledging that minor technical hurdles may arise during the initial rollout, the Finance Minister assured that these would be addressed promptly. He noted that Bangladesh Bank is working to implement this global practice nationwide, urging citizens, traders, and service providers to adopt cashless transactions without hesitation.
