Bangladesh recorded 239,400 foreign tourist arrivals during the first six months of 2026, a decline of around 20 percent from the same period last year, according to data from the Special Branch of Police and Bangladesh Bank compiled by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

The decline continues a downward trend in foreign visitor numbers. Bangladesh received 585,145 foreign visitors in 2025, down about 4 percent from the previous year, while more than 667,000 foreign visitors arrived in 2023.

Tourism stakeholders have pointed to concerns over infrastructure, services and the country’s ability to accommodate international tourists as factors affecting the sector. At the same time, Bangladesh is promoting destinations such as the Sundarbans, Cox’s Bazar and its historical and cultural sites to attract more overseas visitors.
