Cracks appear on Dhaka Bypass

Cracks have developed beside an underpass on the under-construction Dhaka Bypass (Madanpur-Joydebpur) Expressway in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, raising concerns among locals over possible road collapse and accidents.

Locals spotted the cracks early Saturday on the eastern side of the underpass. The damage has spread across nearly a quarter-kilometre stretch, with both horizontal and vertical cracks visible. In some places, the asphalt has peeled away, exposing the underlying layer.

Locals urged the authorities to inspect the site and identify the cause, saying rainwater and pressure from heavy vehicles could further weaken the road and cause accidents.

No representatives of the contractor were found at the site.
