North Korea has tested an intermediate-range ballistic missile equipped with artificial intelligence technology, according to a statement by Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim Yo Jong said the missile could alter its flight path at low altitude using AI technology. She said the test was conducted over the sea off North Korea’s east coast under Kim Jong Un’s supervision.
South Korea’s military said earlier that North Korea had fired a ballistic missile from the Wonsan area that travelled more than 700km toward the sea. Seoul and Washington were analysing the launch, while Japan also detected the projectile.
The test comes amid heightened tensions between the two Koreas following a landmine blast that injured South Korean soldiers. Seoul has accused Pyongyang of planting the mines, while North Korea has denied responsibility.
North Korea has conducted more than 10 missile tests this year, with Pyongyang often describing such launches as tests of new weapons systems or responses to joint military exercises by South Korea and the United States.
