The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against former Padma Bank director and audit committee chairman Mahbubul Haque Chishti, better known as Babul Chishti, and six others over alleged loan embezzlement.
ACC Assistant Director Md Tanzir Ahmed confirmed the matter on Monday.
The case was filed in August 2023 over alleged irregularities in a Tk 1.95 crore loan issued to Nasim Enterprise.
The other accused include Nasim Enterprise owner Md Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, former Farmers Bank officials Irfanul Haque and Md Abdul Motaleb Patwari, former Padma Bank official Swapan Kumar Roy, survey firm owner Habibur Rahman and former Padma Bank branch head Sabbir Mohammad Sayem.
According to the ACC, the loan was approved without proper scrutiny and adequate mortgage security. The Tk 95 lakh loan was allegedly diverted and misappropriated by the borrower.
In a separate case, a court sentenced Babul Chishti and his son Rashedul Haque Chishti to 12 years in prison in October 2023 for embezzling Tk 160 crore from Farmers Bank.
