The government is working to ensure teachers receive due respect, recognition and professional benefits, said Primary and Mass Education Minister of State Bobby Hajjaj.

He made the remarks while speaking at an event marking World Teachers’ Day at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Monday.

Hajjaj said improving the education system is essential for national development and teachers play the key role in this process.

“The government has started working to properly train and evaluate teachers and ensure necessary facilities for them,” he said.

He said initiatives are also being taken to restructure primary education, including formulating policies for teachers.

Hajjaj said more than 650,000 teachers work in primary education, besides several lakh teachers in private institutions. Their status, dignity, pay structure and social recognition must be ensured, he added.
