State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has urged young people to prepare now with knowledge, skills, experience and a sense of responsibility to take charge of Bangladesh's future, saying they will lead the country in the days ahead.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the third UMSAILS-UAP Inter-University Moot Court Competition at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Wednesday.

Hajjaj said lawyers carry significant professional and ethical responsibilities when representing individuals, as even a minor mistake in the legal profession can affect the lives and rights of many people.

He said law students must not only learn laws and regulations but also develop integrity, professional responsibility, analytical thinking and sound decision-making skills.

The state minister said the legal profession of the future would not remain the same as it is today, as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies are rapidly changing legal research, document analysis and other professional activities.

He urged students not to fear technology but to learn to use it responsibly and wisely. Technology may make people's work easier, he said, but it cannot replace human judgment, analysis, ethics and a sense of responsibility.

Highlighting Bangladesh's economic potential, Hajjaj said the government is working with a target of turning Bangladesh into a $1 trillion economy by 2034.

To achieve the goal, he said, the country needs to focus on advanced technology, innovation, foreign investment, skilled human resources and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Mentioning that discussions are underway on potential investment and cooperation with leading technology companies worldwide, he said the biggest driving force behind Bangladesh's future economic transformation would be the young generation.

"Therefore, youths must be prepared from now for technology, research, professional skills and leadership," he said.

The programme was chaired by the chairman of UAP's Department of Law. Chairman of the university's Board of Trustees KM Mujibul Haque and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abu Sayed Mostaque Ahmed attended the event as special guests.

Students from 16 participating universities, along with teachers and students from various faculties of UAP, were also present.
