Five injured in bus crash on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway

Five passengers were injured when a bus collided with another vehicle on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, on Monday. Three of the injured were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment as their condition was critical.

The accident occurred around 11:25 AM in the Dhaka-bound lane in front of Nimtala Howladar Filling Station.

Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a passenger bus operated by Everest Paribahan was travelling from Mawa to Dhaka when the driver lost control and rammed into the rear of an unidentified vehicle ahead.

The front of the bus was badly mangled in the collision, leaving several passengers injured.

A rescue team from Sirajdikhan Fire Station rushed to the scene following the incident and, with the help of local residents, rescued the injured and arranged for their transfer to hospital. After receiving initial treatment, three critically injured passengers were sent to Dhaka for advanced medical care.

Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, said the bus had been travelling at reckless speed before hitting the vehicle ahead.

He confirmed that five passengers were injured and said the damaged bus had been taken into police custody.
