DoE fines 3 brick kilns in Kushtia

Department of Environment (DoE) has imposed fines totalling Tk 8 lakh on three brick kiln owners in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, a team of officials led by DoE Khulna divisional office Executive Magistrate Momtaz Begum conducted drives and fined three brick kiln owners for operating without DoE clearance, using illegal fuel and breaching environmental regulations.

The fined are Mizanur Rahman Majnu of MJB Bricks in Morichar union (Tk 2.5 lakh), Matiur Rahman of MMJ Bricks in Joyrampur-Kallyanpur area (Tk 3 lakh) and Shariful Islam Selim of LAB Bricks in Chakmadia-Kamalpur area (Tk 2.5 lakh).

DoE’s Kushtia District Deputy Director Md Emdadul Haque confirmed the incident and said that raw bricks stored at the kilns were also destroyed.
