Jay Shah to hold talks with BCCI over Bangladesh’s T20 WC concerns

International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah is scheduled to meet officials of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday to address growing uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, amid Dhaka’s hesitancy to travel to India.

According to reports from NDTV, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) initially requested a change of venue for its World Cup matches, citing Sri Lanka as a possible alternative host.

However, the issue has since escalated beyond logistics, with BCB emphasizing national sentiment and dignity, particularly in connection with the controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman’s abrupt exit from Indian Premier League (IPL).

BCB has reportedly requested comprehensive, man-to-man security for every member of its World Cup delegation; including players, coaching staff, support personnel and board officials, if participation in India becomes unavoidable. The move signals that the matter now encompasses both security and respect at an institutional level.

Observers note that the situation places ICC and Jay Shah specifically, in a sensitive position as the governing body seeks to balance the concerns of a participating member board with the interests of a major host nation.

The meeting is expected to clarify Bangladesh’s position and explore possible solutions ahead of the tournament.
