A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent Md Kamal Hossain, a Senior Assistant Secretary and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Ministry of Public Administration, to jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over alleged fraud in securing a civil service post under the freedom fighter quota.
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez cancelled Hossain's bail after the prosecution said he had violated its conditions.
According to the ACC, Hossain falsely identified his uncle, a freedom fighter, as his father to obtain quota benefits and later joined the administration cadre through the 35th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. His actual parents are Md Abul Kashem and Mosammat Habia Khatun, the ACC said.
Court sources said Hossain had earlier obtained anticipatory bail from the High Court and later surrendered before a lower court, which granted him bail on the condition that he cooperate with the investigation, including undergoing a DNA test. The prosecution sought bail cancellation after he failed to comply with the conditions on two occasions. The case was filed on December 26 by ACC Assistant Director Md Manjurul Islam Mintu. The ACC investigation found that Hossain used his biological father's name in academic records up to Class Eight but later replaced it with his uncle's name during school registration to facilitate the fraud.
