Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-15) personnel seized 8.5 kilograms of smuggled Indian hemp during an anti-narcotics operation at Phulbari border in Kurigram district on Thursday.
According to sources, a team of RAB officials under Shimulbari BOP conducted a drive in the border-adjacent Taluk Shimulbari area.
During the drive, the team spotted suspicious individuals attempting to cross the border. When the personnel pursued them, the smugglers abandoned two bundles of hemp weighing 8.5 kg and fled into India. The seized cannabis was brought back to the BGB camp.
Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam confirmed the seizure and affirmed that border security has been strengthened ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.
