FAKIRHAT, BAGERHAT, Feb 14: Newly-elected lawmaker from Bagerhat-1, Principal Md. Mashiur Rahman Khan of the 11-party alliance, has vowed to ensure equal opportunities for all constituents regardless of religion or political affiliation.
"Whether they voted for me or not, everyone will enjoy the same facilities. A Muslim brother like Abdur Rahman will have the same rights as a Hindu brother like Jagdish Pandey. I will guarantee equal rights for all, irrespective of faith, caste, or creed," he said at a reception held at the Fakirhat upazila office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday afternoon.
Mashiur added, "We want to build a culture of harmony in politics. The BNP will form the government, and we will work shoulder to shoulder with them in nation-building. This morning, I personally visited the home of defeated candidate Kapil Krishna Mondol."
The event was attended by Fakirhat Upazila Jamaat President ABM Taiyabur Rahman, Secretary Abul Ala Masum, Bagerhat Election Coordinator Prof. Mofazzel Haidar, NCP district committee senior member Md. Labib Ahmed, and other local leaders. A large crowd gathered as alliance activists welcomed the MP with flowers.
In the 13th national polls, Mashiur secured victory in Bagerhat-1 with 116,248 votes under the 'Scales' symbol. His closest rival, Kapil Krishna Mondol of the BNP, polled 113,283 votes with the 'Sheaf of Paddy'.
