A BNP activist was hacked to death by some miscreants in Barishal Sadar Upazila on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at around 9:30 PM near Bausherhat bazar in the Raypasha–Korapur union area.

The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain Chowdhury.

According to police and local sources, miscreants attacked Delwar indiscriminately with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

Upon receiving information, a team from the Airport Police Station under Barishal Metropolitan Police recovered the body from the spot later that night.

Local BNP leaders and activists alleged that Delwar had a longstanding dispute with local Awami League leader Zakir Chowdhury and his younger brother Kabir Chowdhury.

They claimed the murder may have been linked to that rivalry.

Police said the motive behind the killing is being investigated and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
