A special bus service for women was launched in Chattogram on Tuesday with two buses to provide safer and more comfortable public transport for female passengers.

The buses will operate from the Kalurghat Radio Centre area through Free Port to Patenga, with women able to board and get off at 12 designated stops.

The service was inaugurated around noon at the Kalurghat Radio Centre area. The buses will be operated entirely by women drivers and assistants.

One of the buses is a double-decker with 75 seats, while the other has 45 seats. The double-decker will have one female driver and two assistants, while the other bus will have one driver and one assistant.

The service aims to provide safer and more convenient transport for working women, students and other female passengers. It will also create employment opportunities for women in the transport sector.

Officials said women in Chattogram often face overcrowding, limited seating and safety concerns while using public transport. They hope the dedicated service will help reduce these problems.

The service may be expanded in the future based on passenger demand and operational experience, officials said.
