N'GANJ, Feb 23: Mostafizur Rahman Dipu Bhuiyan, lawmaker from Narayanganj-1 and President of the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said coordinated efforts will be undertaken to ease traffic congestion, remove illegal hawkers, prevent snatching, and improve overall law and order in the district.
He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with leaders of various business organisations held at the chamber's conference room on Monday afternoon, marking the upcoming holy month of Ramadan and focusing on controlling commodity prices.
Dipu Bhuiyan said prices of essential commodities often rise during Ramadan, creating hardship for consumers, while traders also face various challenges. "We will take steps in coordination with traders to find solutions to these problems," he said.
He added that the chamber has formed a monitoring cell and introduced a hotline number to prevent overpricing. "If any trader charges more than the listed price, inform us and we will take collective action," he said.
The MP further said that coordinated efforts involving elected representatives, the city corporation administrator, district administration, police, and business community would be strengthened to improve law and order. He noted that, like previous years, extensive community policing initiatives have been undertaken during Ramadan, and 100 volunteers have already been recruited.
He also expressed his intention to accelerate development activities through the Narayanganj Development Authority and upgrade Narayanganj from a B-grade to an A-grade district.
Among others, FBCCI leader Probir Kumar Saha; President of Bangladesh Yarn Merchant Association M Solaiman; BKMEA Vice-President Rasheduzzaman; president of Bangladesh Hosiery Association Badiuzzaman Badu; and Senior Vice-President of Narayanganj Chamber Morshed Sarwar Sohel were present at the meeting. Leaders of national and local business organisations also spoke on the occasion.
