PIROJPUR, Feb 27: Mobile courts are conducting drives to monitor markets in the district during Ramadan. At least five additional teams are working simultaneously as other authorities carry out drives across the district.
A mobile court conducted a drive on Thursday morning at the markets. Additional Executive Magistrate (ADM) Tanjia Kabir Tropa led the court, while Additional Superintendent of Police Nasrin Jahan, Safe Food Authority Officer Shamim Ahmed, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) President Ziaul Ahsan, Traders Association President Masud Khan Doel, Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vice-President Mehedy Hasan, police forces and journalists were present.
Five traders were fined Tk 9,000 for various irregularities. A molasses trader was fined Tk 5,000 for selling sub-standard and chemically treated products. A grocery shop was fined Tk 1,000 for not displaying a price list of products. One trader was fined Tk 1,000 for selling in an unhygienic manner. One fish feed seller was fined Tk 1,000 for blocking the road, and another was fined Tk 1,000 for selling edible oil in the open and for water bottles.
Meat, fruit and fish sellers were warned not to hike prices, not to sell chemically-mixed and adulterated food, not to occupy public places and to maintain honesty and ethics in business.
The team leader said the court and drives will continue on a regular basis.
