An iftar mahfil program has been hosted by Chattogram district's Port City International University (PCIU) Journalism Alumni Association (PJAA) on Saturday.
Marking the holy month of Ramadan, the iftar mahfil was hosted at a restaurant adjacent to Badsha Mia Petrol Pump in the city.
Presided over by the organisation's president Muhammad Imran Bin Sabur and moderated by the Joint General Secretary Ibrahim Julhaj Neel, senior vice-president Tapash Barua delivered the welcome speech at the event.
The event has brought together several alumni and journalists and provided an opportunity for interaction and goodwill among them.
During the event, speakers said the role of journalists in nation-building is undeniable, adding that they have worked with journalists in the past and intend to continue cooperation in the future.
The speakers urged all to embrace the teachings of the holy month of Ramadan to build an ideal life and seek the welfare of the country. They also condemned killings and oppression against Muslims across the world and called for unity among the Muslim Ummah.
Prior to iftar, special prayers were offered seeking peace, prosperity and the overall welfare of the country, the nation and the Muslim Ummah.
Among the invited guests were Port City International University (PCIU) Registrar Md Obaydur Rahman, PCIU Department of Journalism and Media Studies chairman Dilruba Akter, Assistant Professor Prashanta Kumar Shil, Lecturer Gias Uddin Riyad, Chairman of the BGC Trust Department of Journalism and Media Studies Yasir Silmy and Assistant Proctor Sarwar Kamal.
PJAA General Secretary Sarowar Ahmad and PCIU Journalism Department’s former students Partha Pratim Nandy, Hasibul Alam, Abu Ryhan Tanin, Fahim Al Samad, Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Hamid Uddin, Md Ilias Uddin and Khairunnesa Sultana addressed the gathering.
PJAA Vice-President Mishu Paul, Organising Secretary Tufayelur Rahman, Finance Secretary Shakhawat Alam, Publicity, Publication and Office Secretary Anowar Hossain and Executive Members Sharmin Akter, Akramul Hoque Shamim and Ahmed Jubayer Ullah (Sarjil) were present, among others.
