A daring robbery took place at two neighbouring houses in Narayanganj’s Fatullah police station area, where armed assailants tied up family members before looting cash and gold ornaments early Thursday.

The incident occurred in the pre-dawn hours in the Bhuiyagarh Purba Para area along Al-Aqsa Mosque Road, targeting the homes of trader Amjad Mia and Kudduus Mia.

According to Amjad Mia, an electronics trader, he had travelled to Cox’s Bazar with his family for the Eid holidays, leaving his brother-in-law, Hafez Saifullah, at home.

Upon returning early Thursday, he found Saifullah lying on the floor with his hands, legs, and mouth tied.

After being freed, Saifullah recounted that a group of fifteen to twenty robbers, aged between twenty and twenty-five, broke open the gate lock using sharp arms and entered the house.

They tied him up and looted approximately five bhoris of gold ornaments and Tk 1.15 lakh in cash after breaking open the almirah.

The robbers then moved to the adjacent house of Kudduus Mia.

Kudduus Mia’s son, Zobayer Hossain, said the attackers entered their premises by scaling the boundary wall and breaking the gate lock.

“They first tied me up and then woke my parents, threatening to kill me if they raised any alarm,” he said. The robbers looted about four bhoris of gold ornaments, Tk 20,000 in cash and two mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

Later, locals rescued the victims.

Fatullah Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Mannan said police visited the spot after receiving information.

“We will register a case upon receiving a written complaint. Legal action is underway to identify and arrest the culprits,” added the OC.
