20 held in Ctg RAB personnel murder case

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) and the district police have arrested 20 absconding suspects in connection with the murder of a RAB personnel at Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district.

According to a press release issued on Saturday by RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain, 13 of the accused were arrested by RAB, while the remaining seven were detained by the district police during separate raids.

The arrested individuals include Md. Mizan, 53, Aliraj Hasan alias Sagar, 28, Md. Zahir alias Zahid Hossain, 39, Md. Yunus Ali Howlader, 62, Md. Mamun, 38, Md. Shahjahan, 53, Md. Shafiqul Islam alias Master Shafiqul Islam, 51, Md. Sekender Mia alias Yakub, 43, Md. Selim, 50, Md. Mizanur Rahman Sohan, 19, Saidul Islam, 26, Md. Parvez, 35, and Md. Belal, 30, among others.

RAB said the incident occurred on January 19 when a team from RAB-7 conducted a drive at Jangal Salimpur area to arrest armed criminals. During the operation, the suspects allegedly ambushed the RAB members, leaving four personnel seriously injured.

The injured were taken to Chattogram Combined Military Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared DAD Abdul Motaleb dead.

Following the incident, RAB-7 filed a murder case with Sitakunda Police Station on January 22, naming 29 individuals and listing 150 to 200 unidentified suspects.

Authorities said legal action will be taken against those arrested and they will be handed over to concerned police station for further proceedings.
